FAQ

Number one question

How much does it cost to record a song/album?

That depends on what you want; because there are three main elements that will influence the cost to record and produce a song/album.  They are:

  • Type of use;
  • Type of production;
  • Your budget.

Defining these basics help us to figure out how to best achieve your recording goals.

Can you give me an example?

Sure can!

Type of Use:  This could be a recording that's for personal use (i.e. not for resale), a demo that you want to send out, commercial use, or applying for grants.  Depending on what you want to use the recording for will also determine the type of quality of files you get at the end of the session.  For example, files for a personal use recording will not be the same quality as files for a commercial recording.

Type of Production:  This is the level of involvement.  For example, do you need help with song writing, composing, and/or arrangement?  How many instruments do you want to record?  How much studio time will you need to complete your project?

Budget:  It's important to be realistic about how much do you want to spend?  Are you ready to "rock n' roll" or do you save a bit more?

Your best bet is to contact us with what you want to do.  This way we can work to find a solution to that lines up with your objectives.

The studio is by appointment only, but we operate all year round. Please give us a call or send an email to schedule an appointment.

What is the minimum session time I can book?

Each recording project and artist is unique and has a unique set of variables, and that’s a big part of what makes it so exciting for us. Methods that were successful for one project may not necessarily work for the next. We recommend contacting us about your upcoming recording so that we can assist you in the planning and scheduling of your project.

Generally, there is a 2-hour minimum charge for booking with an engineer or scheduling a recording session (with an engineer).

Can I book for a half day or a full day?

The Process

How Do I Get My Files Ready For Mixing?

We use Pro Tools. A pro tools session file would be ideal but if you can’t get your hands on the session file or if you used another program such as Logic to record in; individual wav files of each vocal will suffice. (If you are sending individual wavs, please ensure that there are NO sound FX or plug ins in any of the wavs).

Can you remix or produce my song?

Yes! Depending on the project and complexity we can tailor a package just for you. Email us or give us a call at (204) 799-4471 to discuss the details of your project.

Can you record on location?

Yes. Emphatically yes. We have location sound recorders to record almost anywhere.

Do you allow session setup time?

Yes. Typically, 30 minutes prior to the session “booked start time”.

Should we bring our own instruments and amplifiers?

Yes, they are what you normally use and are familiar with. We do have instruments in studio available for free, in addition you can rent any specific instrument you require at an additional fee.

Payments and Fees

What payment options do I have?

Payment is accepted by cash, cheque, e-transfer, Paypal, and Square (credit card).

How will I be invoiced?

Billable session hours will extend from either the agreed start time or arrival time (whichever is earlier) through until the end of load out and completion of backups.

When do I pay the deposit and balance?

Partial payments/ specified non-refundable deposits are required to book a session. Balances are due at the end of each session, unless prior arrangements have been approved.  No files will be provided without full payment.

Do you work with Grants?

Yes, we are an accredited studio through Manitoba Film and Music and are members of Manitoba Music.

Cancellations

What if I have to cancel?

In the event that you need to cancel, we need a minimum of 7 days notice so that we can reschedule your session, subject to studio availability. A rescheduling penalty may apply so plan carefully before you book!

Do I get my money back?

All deposits are non-refundable unless it is the studio that needs to cancel or reschedule your booking.  All fees and payments for services are non-refundable.
